Planning a Puerto Rico Surf Vacation

no, passport, required, puerto, rico

The West Coast of Puerto Rico is a relatively small area. There are many beaches and areas to see and experience, but the distance from Isabela to Rincon is short, 40 minutes by car.  Each town has its own rewards, but maybe one town is more suited for your home base.

Aguadilla is closest to the airport and to the most surfing spots, so it may be the best alternative for a shorter trip.  Isabela is close to Aguadilla and offers a few more beachside lodgings and a burgeoning surfing community.  Finally, Rincon, with so many vacation rental options and different surfing beaches, plus so many other activities and restaurants, offers flexibility for your entire group.

Most of the towns offer hotels and resort type properties as well as smaller guest houses and vacation rentals.   Resort timeshares are an excellent option for those seeking a vacation rental style accommodation with all the benefits of resort amenities. Most timeshare resorts in Puerto Rico, such as ESJ Towers, are located right on the beach for easy access to the Atlantic surf; and with the spacious villa style units surfers will have extra room to store their boards. For additional information on timeshares in Puerto Rico we recommend checking out SellMyTimeshareNow.com.

We suggest a car rental, there are taxi services, but not many and they aren't cheap.  Avis and Hertz have 24 hr. desks inside the Aguadilla airport and Charlie car rental and Enterprise are nearby.

There are plenty of places to rent a variety of quality surfboards by the hour, daily or weekly, so bring your own only if you feel you really need it.

There are also plenty of experienced, safe surfing instructors and surfing schools, see our listings for more info.

Purchase a Purple Lizard map of Rincon before your trip, a very accurate  road and beach map with lots of other useful information including where the surf breaks are. www.purplelizard.com
