Getting to the West Coast of Puerto Rico

Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) in Aguadilla is the easiest way to get to the west coast of Puerto Rico.  Jet Blue, United and Spirit Airlines all have flights from the mainland US.  Avis and Hertz have 24 hr. car rental desks inside the airport terminal and Enterprise and Charlie Car Rental are nearby.  If your staying in Aguadilla, everything is within 10 minutes of the airport.  Isabela is about a 15 minute drive from the airport and Rincon, about 30 minutes.  We do recommend a car rental as the surf spots are spread around and while there are taxi services, they aren't cheap. If you are making the west coast part of a Puerto Rico vacation, there are flights into San Juan from many US  and international cities.

If you fly in to San Juan Airport (SJU), the drive to Aguadilla is about 2 hrs.

From the Airport, follow signs to Highway 26 (San Juan) upon exiting the airport
--- DO NOT GO OVER MOSCOSO BRIDGE.

  • Take Autopista (toll road) #22 (Bayamon).
  • You will follow #22 until Arecibo and pay several tolls - about $5.50, having that much in quarters will speed you along.
  • Once in Arecibo #22 turns into #2 – stay left.
  • Follow #2 to Aguadilla (about 30 min.).
  • Take Rt.110 west into Aguadilla
